I was looking for something fresh to play with my friend on PS5, something that didn’t feel like another Soulsborne or Call of Duty clone. Vinebound: Tangled Together showed up in a random recommendation, and honestly? It’s the most unexpectedly satisfying little gem I’ve played this year. The whole premise - you’re linked by a magical vine to a fairy companion, and both of you have to time attacks using a ping-pong flower that shuttles back and forth - sounds silly at first. But once you’re actually dodging bullets while syncing your swings, it clicks in a really neat way.

The good stuff

The vine mechanic is genius. You don’t just control one character - you’re two parts of a single system. When the flower reaches you, you unleash your weapon. Then it zips to the other end, where your partner hits their attack. That travel time is your cooldown, so you’re constantly thinking ahead. It’s like a rhythm game crossed with bullet hell. I remember one boss fight where we had to alternate between high-damage slashes and quick dashes, and the flow felt so natural. We were yelling at each other to “wait for the flower!” and then BAM - perfect combo. Also, the visuals are bright and cartoony without being childish. It feels like a mix of Dead Cells and Cuphead, but with more actual teamwork. And the builds? Super deep. You can swap weapons, pick up different sauces (yes, sauces), and upgrade abilities. There’s real variety in how you build your character and fairy combo. My favorite setup involved a flamethrower and a slow-mo dash - basically turning every encounter into a slow-motion fire ballet.

The not-so-good

It’s only local co-op. No online multiplayer. So if you’re not lucky enough to have someone physically nearby, you’re stuck with AI. And the AI isn’t bad, but it doesn’t match the energy of playing with a real person. It’s fine for solo runs, but the magic’s in the shared chaos. Also, the game’s got zero tutorials. You jump in, and it’s all “figure it out.” Might be frustrating for newcomers. And yeah, the developer and license info are nowhere. Feels a bit off, but the gameplay makes up for it.

Bottom line

If you’ve got a friend who’s down for some messy, fast-paced co-op action on PS5, Vinebound: Tangled Together - Download for Ps5 is a must. It’s not perfect, but it’s unique and genuinely fun.
